HAWSCT judges issuing separate opinions this month:
Justice Nakayama (joined by Judge Trader) dissented in Chang v. Buffington, here, which we blogged about here.
ICA judges issued several separate opinions this month:
CJ Nakamura filed 1 dissenting opinion here in Cabral v. State, which we blogged about here.
Judge Ginoza issued 1 concurring opinion from an SDO in a criminal case State v. Bullard involving an OVUII conviction here (something she also did several times last month)

As a reminder, there were 85 opinions and orders issued in June – so July shows a decrease in the appellate courts’ activity.
A few observations about this month’s stats:
(1) The Hawaii Supreme Court saw an increase in parties filing cert petitions – more than we’ve seen in a single month since we started tracking stats – at 14. However, the court only granted cert in 2 of the cases;
(2) For the third month in a row, the ICA has issued a large number of dismissals for failure to comply with HRAP 30 (failure to file a statement of the jurisdiction and/or opening brief);
(3) Of the 27 ICA miscellaneous orders, 18 were dismissal orders.
